Personal Headcanons
Dec. 19th, 2015 11:14 amThrough the years I've played Kol, I've acquired a few headcanons and rather than re-explaining it, here's a handy post! I may regularly update it between (a) new headcanons I take on and (b) things I've suddenly remembered because...lol I've got to think of 3yrs worth of headcanons and I might forget some and need to add them back in!
Some of these may conflict with actual canon or may not always be something I use and in both cases can be discussed. I'll mark those with a * for clarity!
•He is bisexual. He is the decadent and indulgent sibling, always favoring all things pleasurable, and this is no different. He refuses to limit himself in any manner of fun or pleasure.
•Despite that last fact, he has never truly had a real relationship. He would rather indulge as a bachelor than tie himself down in that way. He mocks Bekah regularly for her own lovelife--although he keeps it to mostly innocent teasing! I am open to ships with him...it just will be a slow build/burn and take a very specific type of person to get through to him in that way.
•He has only turned his emotional switch off once in his entire existence, early on in the vamp years when they still didn't understand things. He hated how apathetic it felt, and found he missed the thrill of killing and so has never done so again.
•I have never quite pinned down in what way, so this is a very loose/tentative headcanon, but: Everything is enhanced as a vampire, from your senses to your emotions, so it is not a leap to think that if there was some underlying (and obviously very undiagnosed) mental illness, it too would be exacerbated. I have honestly not once in my 3yrs playing him referenced this ICly, it's mostly just something that lingers in the back of my mind. *
•Thanks to being locked in a box so often by his brother, he's actually mildly claustrophobic, even though he'd never admit it.
•Drinks like a fish on a regular basis, but only smokes cigarettes when he is stressed.
•Overall: His family is insane and his siblings have the most vicious cycles of drama anyone has ever seen. They don't always get along, but they do always love each other. There are issues, buckets of them, and Kol has always felt a bit excluded from the most inner circle because Nik, Bekah and Elijah had always had a weird Three Musketeers thing going on, but at the end of the day, Kol would do anything for any of them, to keep them safe. He would be there when he was truly needed, he would defend them, fight for them, kill for them, stand against any who dare stand against his own.
•Relationship with Elijah: If Kol looks to anyone as a sort of parent, it's Elijah. Finn basically failed in his place as the eldest, so Elijah stepped in to fill the space. Kol has an almost natural urge to not let Elijah down when it really matters and when it truly counts. Much like in the way a child doesn't want to be the reason for their parents disappointment--it is so much worse and harder to handle than anger, after all. In the between, he has a tendency to mock Elijah for being too stuffy and needing to live a little. He tries to get his brother to let loose, but more often than not, to little or no avail at all.
•Relationship with Nik: Like everyone in this family, Kol's most complicated familial relationship is with his half-brother. Although Nik tends to make the distinction on a semi-regular basis, Kol has never looked at him that way--even if he doesn't necessarily so readily admit such information. There is a part of Kol that looks up to him in the same way any younger sibling looks up to their older brother--if twisted in a darker way because of the family's very nature alone. Nik has always been the one people feared. His name alone mentioned in the right circles, struck fear in the hearts of many. And...a part of Kol wishes to have that kind of legend, that sort of legacy--and might have played a part behind some of his wilder antics through the years. A bratty, child-like cry out for attention that was his own and not in the general sweep of being Niklaus Mikaelson's crazy brother. In that way, he has always felt ignored, like he could never do better than live in his brother's shadow. And it carried over into other aspects of their relationship, poisoned what could have been and festered a lot of underlying resentment toward the hybrid. Nik's own actions against his little brother only served to harden the walls between them.
•Relationship with Rebekah: Of all of his siblings, Rebekah is the one he is absolutely closest to. Perhaps in part because she is closest to his own age, but also because she has always been there in ways the others couldn't. She is his confidant, the one he is the most honest and open with, about things he doesn't so much as mention to anyone else. She is also his partner-in-crime, the pair of them often getting into some kind of shenanigans or other together. He has even been known to affectionately call her his twin on occasion.
•Relationship with Finn: Honestly? Kol doesn't have a lot of opinions on Finn outside of him being Esther's lap dog and a total bore. He always found Finn's self-loathing of what he is annoying and felt had he just embraced it like the rest of them eventually had done, he would have been better off. He relentlessly teases and mocks him and honestly just does not think highly of the eldest Mikaelson brother.
•Relationship with Esther: Oh, Mother. We thought you were dead and then you came back to kill us all. Yes, he hates her to the core. She turned them into what they are and then decided she made a mistake and decided to try and undo it. Considers her own children abominations when it was all done at her own hand. He would be hard pressed to ever believe anything she said and would never trust her.
•Relationship with Mikael: There is a lot of fear involved here, for obvious reasons. Mikael is the main reason their lives were all such hell and appropriately so, Kol holds a burning torch of hate for him.
•As we know, Kol spent a lot of time away from his siblings. He traveled with witches a lotbecause it's better than being locked in a box and such, but he was there fleetingly. Basically, I imagine that he was there for the "good" times, when things weren't as tense among them. And when tensions reached a certain point, he fled. Unless Nik caught him and daggered him because oops, that happened a lot too.
•Through the years, Kol tried repeatedly to convince Rebekah to leave with him.
•The final time (prior to their return in TVD) that Kol & Rebekah were daggered was because he had actually managed to convince Rebekah to leave--and Klaus found out. So punishment was doled out. *
Some of these may conflict with actual canon or may not always be something I use and in both cases can be discussed. I'll mark those with a * for clarity!
